So I've always wanted to actually host several server on proper hardware, currently my 2 rust servers are run on an old computer client of mine wanted me to get rid of. Crappy specs AMD X2 4400+ 2GB ram.

Got me thinking, how much would hosting my own server with proper hardware, be? I have the bandwidth, 100Mb soon to be 300Mb, so not worried about that. Does anyone host their server on hardware they own? How well does rust run on it? Have you tried throwing the whole ~600MB of server files into a Ram Disk with periodic images to HDD for increased speed? Or am I the only one who thinks of these crazy ideas?

I'm actually heavily thinking about getting a used 2x xeon quadcore with 16GB+ Ram rackmount server from ebay and trying some crazy ways of hosting games, like as stated, from Ram. Would host several servers from the server and not just rust.

Anyone have experience with this?

I usually test my plugins on my own server and runs fine (i7-4770k). The CPU usage doesn't go very high (10% on server init, 0-5% while playing), and the RAM stays from 0,5 to 1 GB as far as I've tested . The server where I used to play hosted more than 50 players at a time and used an i7-3770.

I hope it helps :p

Yeah same ram usage, but with this crappy cpu its about 30-50% during saves. I want to be able to have 400 people on my BF with unl. clip without server lag. 100% in ram + 8 cores should do it. XD
