Rust server hosting - to ddos or not!

Hey guys,
i would like to set up my very first rust server and install your plug in. I made my research online so dont "fight" me
just a question related to ddos protection. Do i really need ddos for my rust server? Why hosts with ddos are cheaper than hosts with out? http://nazeboo.com/server-hosting/rust-server-hosting/ (Look host Nr 1 and host Nr 3)

I can only recommend a good ddos protection. Every damn script kiddie can get a booter and ddos you.

You have any idea on server specs? (cores,ram...) I was looking forward for a vps from the first moment. Im not experienced with servers but i could give it a go.

A simple 2-4 core 4-16 gb ram should be enough. I have a bit bigger server, since i run a bit more stuff, and if i need to run more I can still do. I have a 8 core, 32gb ram, 3TB raid linux based dedicated server in Germany from hetzner. They have a serverbidding where you can find cheap servers that were cancelled not long ago. If you wish to run rust I recommend buying windows based esspecially if you are new to linux. Unless you buy a big server and run a windows vps on it like i do.

To get players to join, You'll want a good host name.
Some tags like;
-AntiCheat
-Kits
-Home/TP
-Wiped <Day,Month>
Etc.
the next thing is a little hard but you must be active and have a few friends active on the server (No on wants to join an empty server).
Maybe join another server can added heaps of players so your server will pop up in their friends tab.
Or join a clan on one of the servers.
